If you're in the DFW area and haven't already been, you need to check out Glen Rose. Seriously, it's the prettiest little town ever and it's got *tons* of stuff to do with the kids.
We had planned on visiting Dinosaur Valley State Park - where you can stand in real dinosaur footprints - but as luck would have it, it poured the entire time we were there (like, from the time we left the house in the morning until we woke up the following day) and outdoor activities were low on our list. So, we ended up going to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, instead.
Fossil Rim is one of those safari-type places you drive through, and you can actually feed the animals. Totally right up my alley!
We could all use some pictures of exotic animals in the rain, right?
So, I kind of love this guy - but those antlers were pretty fierce-looking. Jack politely requested we not let him stick his head in the car looking for treats. I obliged.
Horses can be really pushy when it comes to being fed, and guess what? Zebras are no exception! Even worse, they're, you know, wild and everything...so we weren't too interested in letting this pushy fellow get up close and personal, either (but my is he pretty!).
I think the best part of Fossil Rim, hands down, is feeding the giraffes. I have pictures of a giraffe (from a prior visit) sticking his head into our sunroof. Alas, the rain kept them in their barn this time and giraffe-feeding was not to be.
Also with ominous head wear, this guy literally climbed up some rocks and popped out on the road next to us (yes, they have rocky hills in Glen Rose!).
This one might be hard to make out due to the rain, but it's a picture of Jack feeding a sweet doe in our rear view mirror. Okay, *technically* you are supposed to throw the food onto the ground and not feed them from your hands, but I let Jack break this rule just this once (really, he was too cautious to hand-feed the rest of the animals, anyway).
I saved the best for last. This emu was very close to the car. And I was afraid of him. For good reason.
Anyway, I ended up with some fun pictures and wanted to share (and couldn't be bothered to come up with any "real" content this week, in case you hadn't noticed). I hope you enjoyed them!
Zebras and Emus and Elk, Oh My - indeed!
So much to catch up on!
ReplyDeleteI want an Emu. They are cute (note that I am thousands of miles away from one).
Your Jack is so darling I cannot stand it. He and Emma must meet.
I want to go to a state fair. You have inspired me!
Yeah, emus are cute but I think this one wanted to peck me to pieces.
DeleteYes, Jack and Emma must meet! Hopefully she likes Transformers.
