Yesterday, one of my facebook friends posted that she would be posting about something she is thankful for every day for the month of November in honor of Thanksgiving.
Now let me be clear. The whole concept of a holiday based on happy "Indians" and "Pilgrims" working together to create a new country is baffling. But I believe Thanksgiving has evolved into something else entirely - a time to celebrate what you are thankful for - and that is something I can get behind.
I like to be grateful.
So, in an attempt to get in the holiday spirit (and to me, holidays are really about family and gratitude...and Santa), I am going to do my best to blog about something I am grateful for every day this month.
Also? I learned about something called NaBloPoMo - National Blog Post Month. NaBloPoMo encourages bloggers to blog every day for the month of November. While I don't feel like a "real" blogger, it sounds like fun so why not, right?
So let's get started. Because I didn't post yesterday I have some catching up to do (and I guess technically that means I've already FAILED NaBloPoMo but I'm going to give myself a break since I just found out about it yesterday).
Yesterday, I was grateful for my mom's Very Old Sewing Machine.
I can't say it's a creative outlet for me...yet...but I hope it will become just that. This thing is seriously awesome. My mom learned to sew on it, and it was a wedding present for my Grandma...circa 1950ish, so the thing is some 60 years old and it is a workhorse. I love it. Unfortunately, after finally making some progress on the project I was working on last night, it started making a weird noise and skipping stitches and I don't know what I've done wrong (but I do know it's user error), so I have to wait until my mom can come up and show me how to fix whatever it is I have messed up.
I am grateful for the sewing machine and the opportunity it gives me to learn something new (which I desperately need!).
And today (because I need to get caught up), I am grateful for my pony. I miss him terribly, but I don't think he is missing me. Here's Seamus (in front) with his girlfriend, Blossom.
I haven't seen him in weeks, but I think about him a lot. Lately I have felt the "horse bug" creeping back in. I recovered from it - briefly - when Jack was born, but more than ever I am itching to get back on a horse. I am grateful that I have this beautiful pony waiting for me.
There you have it. Two days of Thankfulness AND I'm kind of doing NaBloPoMo...even though I kind of cheated by missing yesterday (if I post something 29/30 days I will feel like a champ!).
