Fall in the Country

If you live in Texas, you like Fall.  Because it means NO MORE SUMMER.

It's mostly Fall-ish around here these days, but the ladies over at SITS - with their Fall Back Into Blogging event - have given me a bout of Fall Fever.

Day 2 of their blogging challenge is a photographic challenge...the prompt is to show a picture of what Fall means to me.

To be honest, I barely even remember last Fall.  We were in a new house, in a new town, with a new baby.  The newborn haze was thick and I don't really remember much for the first few months seasons of Claire's life.  My memories don't start to sharpen until sometime in the Spring.

But!  I remember the previous Fall.  When it was just me, Charles, and Jack.  Living in the country.  Claire not even a figment of our imaginations yet.

Pictures like this remind me of the things I loved about the country.  I forget about the scorpions, the spiders, the neighbor's buffaloes tearing down our fence and terrorizing our horses.  Instead, I just think about the cool breeze, dressing Jack in pants and long sleeves and following him all.the.way.down.this.super.long.driveway to get the mail, and the fuzzy coats my horses were starting to sprout.

And one more Fall favorite of mine!

This.  I love this.

Happy Fall, y'all!  Come join us and link up over at SITS!

    1. It was part awesome, part not-so-awesome. Our house was infested (seriously, we saw one a day on average) with scorpions, for example. So it had its downsides!

  6. Found you on the SITS blog challenge. My family is in Oklahoma so I know exactly what you mean about when you are ready for fall, the hot summer is over. Unfortunately where my parents are, it's still in the 100's. Blah! So they are ready for it. Bring on fall!

  7. I love that country road picture. And the row of blue jack o lanterns. Awesome!

You left me a comment about a Jack in the Box shake yesterday, and I just had to tell you that not only is fast food acceptable, it is encouraged. We don't have a Jack in the Box down here, but I always go there when I visit my mom in Arizona. It is one of my favorites!!

    1. OK good...because that is seriously my only "Fall staple" - I was practically hooked up to a Jack-in-the-Box Pumpkin Shake IV when I was pregnant!
